Word Ladder is a classic word puzzle invented by Lewis Carroll. Start with one word and transform it into a completely different word by changing just one letter at a time — each intermediate step must also be a valid word. Easy mode uses short 3-letter words with 1–3 steps; Medium uses 4-letter words with up to 8 steps; Hard uses 5-letter words with 1–3 steps. How does Word Ladder work?
You're given a start word and an end word. Type words into the intermediate slots — each word must differ from the previous by exactly one letter and must be a valid English word. Reach the end word to win.
What does 'optimal steps' mean?
The optimal steps number shows the shortest known path between the start and end words. You can use more steps, but matching or beating the optimal is the real challenge.
